The Archaeological Museum of Seville, in collaboration with ICOM Spain (International Council of Museums) and ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño (APD), has organized the International Encounter, “Museography to Debate”, which will be held November 21 in Seville.
The Encounter is framed within the context of the renovation of the Archaeological Museum of Seville, highlighting the innovative professional practices developed in the most recent museum renovation projects. New challenges for the Andalusian museum: the Renovation of Seville’s Archaeological Museum (MASE)
The meeting is part of the initiative of the Archaeological Museum of Seville to generate a forum for debate in the context of its comprehensive renovation, one of the most important challenges facing museums in Andalusia at this time.
This centre was inaugurated and opened to the public in 1879, in the building of Convento de la Merced and shared with the Museo de Pinturas, today Museum of Fine Arts of Seville. The Archaeological Museum was moved in 1946 to the America Square, where museum is currently located.
This historical building was designed by Anibal Gonzalez for the lnternational Exhibition in 1929. Different restructurings in the ancient building made the relation and communication between museum and public possible. Nevertheless, the museographical message of the Archaeological Museum today needs renovation, just like its installations.
As an incentive for the MASE, and as support to the professional learning and knowledge in its day to day routines, the museum organizes this technical meeting as a dialogue between different experts in museographical conceptions and science.
