The “Toledo, Universal City” show was shown on 6, 7 and 8 September during “Luz Toledo 2018” and was watched by thousands of people.

The show presented Toledo’s universal contribution and its historical, cultural, artistic and literary legacy, as part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.

The show designed by ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño (APD) used the latest technologies in projection, lighting and special 3D effects. Areas were set up for people with disabilities, and it was a “carbon-neutral” event, meaning that the CO2emissions linked to the event will be calculated and offset with a clean energy project.

Using the mapping technique, APD turned the Alcázar’s façade into a giant screen with 12 projectors. Thousands of people enjoyed the projection, which covered landmarks and sites that are key to understanding the history of the city.

The projection of the 3rd-century Roman Palace, the simulation of the opening of the Alcázar to show spectators the artistic, literary, scenic and culinary heritage of the city and the journey through different icons and artistic styles were among the highlights for the event’s spectators.

Projects like this are part of what ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño calls “Cultural Engineering”, a concept that consists of making cutting-edge visual and sensorial technology available to showcase a city or site’s history, tradition and values and boost their tourism appeal.
