Each year on the night of July 24th, the Fires of the Apostle commemorate the celebrations of the Apostle Santiago with a nighttime multimedia and fireworks show over the Cathedral which is enjoyed by thousands of local residents and pilgrims coming from all over the world.
ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño has carried out this significant event on numerous occasions. The show created in 2011, coinciding with the VIII Centenary for the Commemoration of the Cathedral, stands out in a very special way. The company created a pioneering spectacle that for the first time ever used the latest 3D technology over the Baroque façade with the technique of mapping. The façade of the Cathedral was converted into a huge screen where its history was recreated through a virtual tour that combined projections, special effects, light, sound, music and pyrotechnics.
The visual impact was made with 16 projectors, 350,000 lumens, and total power of 50.000 W including the sound equipment. The fireworks with 4200 explosive devices completed this unique event which was acknowledged with the award for the Best Cultural Event of Europe of 2012.
Its remarkable stage production, as well as its excellent results, have marked a milestone in the history of cultural events.
